This is important to note as there are many molecules that aren’t amino acids but have amine groups. It is a reaction involving the amine group of molecules. The most generalized test we will likely use is the Ninhydrin test. ![]() ![]() Hopkins cole test (test for tryptophan).Ninhydrin test (a general test for amino acids).Xanthoproteic acid test (test for amino acids with an aromatic R group).By now I hope you know that amino acids are the molecules that make up all the proteins (if not you can check out Reflection 3), but have you ever wondered how can we can identify them? Ever wonder if the “meat” that they serve us really is the real mccoy? Well there are various tests one can conduct to figure these tests out such as spectroscopies or through use of various reagents. The topic of proteins and amino acids is a pretty big topic so I couldn’t cover it all I wanted to in the last reflection but don’t worry, I’m here to shine a “lil” more light your way. ![]()
